Nesrin Horzum received a B.Sc. in analytical chemistry from Pamukkkale University in 2004. She did her M.Sc. and Ph.D. studies in Department of Chemistry at the Izmir Institute of Technology in 2008 and 2013, respectively. She worked at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research and the Nanyang Technological University.

She joined İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University in 2013, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019, and to Professor in 2025. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Engineering Sciences at İzmir Kâtip Çelebi University, İzmir, Türkiye. Her research interests focus on polymer-based nanomaterials for filtration, energy, and sensing applications, as well as smartphone-based sensors for water quality monitoring and biomolecule detection.
